“GAS” is an inspired missive about consumption and petroleum. Gear Acquisition Syndrome and fossil fuel addiction have similarities. The sense that the only way forward is to have more and go faster. The focus in our world in acquiring and gathering is a disease that has consequences for the world. Seen from another planet and another time, the whole approach of the system seems so off-putting. The use of ancient dinosaur bones to fuel the drive to work in order to get enough money to buy more ancient dinosaur bone juice is terrible.

The cat from outer space made it clear that they weren’t judging our participation in the system. “The lie that has been so effective is to convince people since birth that this was the only way to exist. That you needed a car and needed to get more junk than your neighbor. You don’t. But telling people who have been inculcated in that existence seems like someone yelling from another planet! If I had one thing to tell the humans of this plane of existence: don’t feel guilty, just change.”
